There is a particular quality of light on Casco Bay in the early morning, the water flat, the air still, an osprey lifting off from its nest in the spruce at the edge of the lawn. At 675 Wolfe's Neck Road, this is simply Tuesday. One to three chicks hatch each year. In winter, bald eagles work the shoreline.

In autumn, the light turns golden, and the bay belongs to those who live here. In winter, the water goes steel blue, the fire is lit, and the kitchen earns its keep. Every season on this peninsula has its own argument for staying.
